An easy and quick meal for a seabird typically comes from following fishing vessels. Being able to exploit this behavior, could be very useful for scientists. This behavior can be used to help spot illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. These unfortunate acts account for $23.5 billion worth of seafood each year. Some successful research has been done in the Indian Ocean with scientists attaching transmitters. While these studies have been successful, more research needs to be done to validate the use of this tactic.
